Nothing But The Beat Review

Recently I made a quick spur of the moment decision to purchase David Guetta's new album titled Nothing But The Beat. 14 tracks for around $8 why not? Here are my thoughts on each song, guest starring every current top 100 star to graze the top of the charts.

Track 1: Where Them Girls At (feat. Nicki Minaj &Flo Rida)
This track proved hard to review, seeing as it has been played multiple times on the radio before the release of this album. Overall it maintains its catchy beat, even as I write this I am tapping my foot. Lyrics paint a good story, nothing that would be on Oprah's book club, but still catchy enough to sing along to.

Track 2: Little Bad Girl (feat. Taio Cruz &Ludacris)
Yet another catchy beat, great use of synth as always. Again difficult to review, seeing as it is played on the radio a lot, but not overplayed in my opinion. Taking a closer listen to the lyrics, again it isn't a Pulitzer, but instead good to sing along with at the club. Well the chorus at least, when Ludacris enters, I tend to only be able to pick up a few words here and there.

Track 3: Turn Me On (feat. Nicki Minaj)
She starts off taking about a doctor, which works for the song and then suddenly hit the chorus hard. And by hit the chorus hard I mean by hitting it with a chipmunk. A very talented chipmunk mind you, it just seems to be a bit higher than the rest of the song. Parts of the song remind me more of Cascada's voice than Ms. Minaj's. Oh and the more "rap" portion is lacking. And the song ends too abruptly, it could hold out another 30 seconds and it would sound better. So far though, if you played this album at a party, it wouldn't have even crossed my mind that it was an album at all.

Track 4: Sweat (Snoop Dogg vs. David Guetta) [Remix]
This song could easily rise up and become a club/party favorite with it's catchy beat, simple lyrics and relatability to those who are at the clubs/parties. "I wanna make you sweat" surely has a different meaning behind it, but have you been to a club/party and not sweated like a pig?

Track 5: Without You (feat. Usher)
Hearing this song from the beginning makes me feels as if this is a U2 remix, this version doesn't seem to stray too far from each other. And then the more older "Daft Punk" feel kicks in and takes things up a notch for a couple of seconds. And then right back to piano, which works, and brings a slow transition back into the "Daft Punk" feel again by adding different layers every couple of seconds. As for lyrics, they are lacking in quantity, but easily open the world up for imagination.

Track 6: Nothing Really Matters (feat. will.i.am)
Hearing the start of this song makes me wonder if the middle of this album is just a slow ballad, but then I'm quickly surprised when it starts to pick up, but doesn't walk too far from the ballad feel. The only part of the song that feels like it could be out of place is the bass that hits for a couple of seconds, but it work out well in the end. I think this song proves that "Nothing really matters in the club, but the beat", which sadly might have been a main reason why I went to clubs before, For the music. Is that such a crime?

Track 7:   I Can Only Imagine (feat. Chris Brown &Lil Wayne)
Maybe one of my new favorite songs right here, but "I Can Only Imagine" that they could take Weird Al and have him this sing this song, and nobody would know the difference. Minus the accordion of course. Another great use of the piano with this song, as has been used in other tracks on this album as well. This song has to have used up the rest of the albums auto-tune though, they applied more than a daily dose of it here.

Track 8: Crank It Up (feat. Akon)
Ok I lied, this should be the single song at the top of the dance charts. I could see myself walking into a club asking to hear this song more than once in the night. This song could easily be overplayed into nothingness if radio DJ's aren't careful. Now I don't know if there is a music video for this song yet or not, but I envision Akon walking up to a very average looking girl and seeing her inner beauty pouring out of her, and then super slow motion where everybody is dancing around them while they stare into each others eyes. Was I the only one to see that? Hmm...

Track 9 : I Just Wanna F. (Timberland & Dev)
Now it may just be me, but there is too much going on in this track to really enjoy it, at all. I can't even begin to describe this song at all, but at least there are more lyrics than the other songs. Granted I can't truly understand these lyrics, but they are there. The funniest line in this song has to be about the teacher where the kid doesn't want an "A", instead he wants an "F". Now no kid will understand what they are talking about, but why would they be listening to this in the first place?

Track 10: Lunar (David Guetta and Afrojack)
Despite this being a song by David Guetta and Afrojack, it feels as if it was written as a combo project between Daft Punk and deadmau5. That being said, I feel as if I jumped onto the Grid in Tron, into the middle of the best race of all time. Warning: Do Not drive while listening to this song, you will feel like a lightcycle and want to break 88 MPH at the same time to travel back in time and race yourself. I know this from person experience because the first place I listened to this song was while driving a Dodge 2001 Minivan. Oh and side note, it did not turn into a time travelling lightcycle, despite how hard I tried. I believe that this song is the only one on this album that doesn't have lyrics, and is the only one that doesn't need them. Pure amazingness.

Track 11: Night Of your Life (feat. Jennifer Hudson)
The beginning of this song made me double check to see if I had left "repeat song" on by accident, because it has a similar start to "Lunar". Again this is another "Cascada" style song, which fails to disappoint. It may not be the highlight of the party, but it helps to keep the beat moving forward, the only thing that holds it back are truly catch lyrics in the chorus. But again that is just my opinion.

Track 12: Repeat (feat Jessie J)
A guitar to start off? Well that's something new for this album, which grabs your attention to the intro pretty quickly. This song also has more of a story behind it, in comparison to most of  album which talks about "Grinding" and "Sex" and "Club Life". But don't get me wrong, those are great songs in themselves, but this one brings more of a sense of reality that isn't as self-centered.

Track 13: Titanium (feat. Sia)
Hmm maybe they just found a guitar lying around the studio just as they were wrapping up the album. This song brings a nice, slower mix of electro and guitar together to create a mix to be proud of. Closer to past the 1 minute mark of the song, things seem to pick up with more of a dance feel, but don't hold out as long as I believe that they could. I do look forward to remixes of this song, just to see what it can be molded into. Oh and how many songs contain the word "Titanium" as part of the lyrics? I wouldn't have guessed that was what they were saying though, if I didn't know the name of the song beforehand.

Track 14: I'm A Machine (feat. Crystal Nicole)
This is the last track of the album, and a great one to place there, because you want to play it over and over again. Again this is a song to not drive along to, with the reason being that the bass is soo powerful that your rear view mirror will shake soo much that the car/truck behind you will instantly split into 3 separate cars. At least I know that from personal experience. This song is up there with my top 5 favorites from this album easily, I cannot stop moving/dancing. And I'm a bad dancer, so it should be considered a health hazard to others to have on when I'm nearby. I cannot wait to hit replay.

Warner Bros you take forever with your movies

Batman.
Just saying that makes me want to wrap a beach towel around my neck and run around my yard singing "Nanaananana!" But sadly I am not that little kid anymore, but am now a younger man. Somewhere, deep inside of me, part of me is still waiting on the chance to relive those glory days and has to do so with the release of the new "Dark Knight" movies. The first release of this soon to become series left us waiting on the edge of our seats for yet another glorious story to unfold right in front of our eyes, as did the second. But now my rear is becoming tired while waiting for the third installment to arise, rumored to be released here in the USA on July 20th 2012. Yes that's right, more than one year from today. Hopefully it will be well worth the wait, and if it is anything like the previous two, it will be. The nice bonus added to this upcoming film will be the addition of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, which will be an interesting switch from her usual goody goody Princess films that still run in loops on ABC Family. As usual the always dark Christian Bale will be returning to reprise his role as the Dark Knight himself, with his usual sidekick all-star cast of Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine. Tom Hardy, who has played characters in two of my favorite films (Inception and Layer Cake) will apparently be the villain Bane of which I am sad to say, I am unfamiliar with. Hopefully I will not have to be too familiar with the character in order to understand him. Based off of the immediate information I have decided to give the first review of the film, placing it at 3.8 out of 5 stars for now. The cast has always seemed to work seamlessly to bring a new world around us, but the main fact that is holding me back is the release date. It's just too far away. Now will somebody find an early release, and do me a favor and release it, early please!

When did Comedy stop being funny?

Last night I decided to check out one of the latest shows to air on Comedy Central. Little did I know that that would be a big mistake, resulting in me quickly changing the channel. Sports Show with Norm MacDonald was on, and me being too lazy to switch the channel, decided to watch a few minutes of it. Now understand that I am not a big sports fan, but even I could tell that there would be funnier commentary's on ESPN. I have always wondered what people saw in Norm, to me I see a serious lack of professionalism and a lack of a funny bone. During the painful 5 minutes that I decided to endure this program, about 1 minute of it was composed of Norm trying his best not to laugh at his own unfunny jokes. If you want to seem funny by laughing at your own jokes, stay on SNL. So far that is the only place where you have seemed remotely funny, and saying that is a big stretch as is. I do recall wondering, when Norm was roasting Bob Saget, asking myself if his style of comedy was to try to be as unfunny as he can be. All in all I cannot find anything funny about the program Sports Show, and would find it hard to believe if it would be picked up for another season. The only way it could be, in my opinion, is to replace the host with an actual comedian.

I cut myself on a tin of mints

Just read the title, it explains it all. I was closing a tin of mints, and it pinched the area between my thumb and my index finger, which started bleeding. That's pretty much it, hope you didn't walk into this post expecting more. I bet you read the title and thought that I cut myself on purpose. Jokes on you I suppose. Somehow this was not the highlight of the evening.

As you may have noticed, I created a new video today. And then I erased more than half of it, by accident. So I quickly grabbed my camera and ran into the closet (insert joke now), and began to film. I didn't get to cover all of the topics that I wanted to but I just wanted to create and upload the video. To my surprise the video uploaded in HD, something that the previous two Vlogs failed to do. Maybe I need new software, this time I just used the Flip software, which created this weird fade between clips that cut off some of the words I was saying. That will be something to look into, as well as obtaining new editing software. For the most part I think I am going to stick with my Flip for most of my Vlogging, but hope to be able to upgrade, or at least use my new HD webcam for non-mobile Vlogs.

There aren't too many videos on my Youtube page as of right now, and for those few videos there are few views and few subscribers (although there are more there than here), but I'm hoping that with a strong speaking voice and consistent video uploads, I should be able to acquire a fanbase. The one thing that I will need to work on is getting material. Working a full time job where cameras are not allowed, and speaking of what happens at work is against contract, makes it difficult to find material. But I'm sure that it will come soon.

New webcam or lack there of

So today is Valentines Day. I had wanted to either order a heart shaped pizza and have it delivered, or go out and buy a box of chocolates, then eat them by myself in front of the employees. Sadly I did neither of these, instead I sat in my place waiting for a package to arrive from Amazon. I had ordered a new webcam and a Bluetooth earpiece. I rarely use Bluetooth, so I really question why I went out and bought it, of which the only answer I can come up with is that I secretly want to feel like a secret agent. Of which I will likely pretend that I am at some point in time during the next week. With the webcam I hope to begin doing Vlogs about random things that happen in my week, alongside with random reviews of random things. I also have to learn how to edit. I need a "to do" list come to think of it. But sadly they wont let me pick up the package until tomorrow, but I will be working the entire time that they are open, same for the next day. So the only time that I can go to pick it up is on Thursday, and despite it being one of my days off, I might just wake up early to go and pick it up. 

Anyways this is everything that has been in my head for the past 15 minutes, not bad for my first Blog, not necessarily good either. I think I'm only going to post links to this Blog on my Youtube videos, so that way I can separate my real life from my separate persona, my internet persona.
